For most of the people, winters are about snuggling up in your blanket, wearing warm sweaters and sipping hot coffee. But for those who are unfortunate, winters are harsh and every drop in the temperature is another fight for their survival. India is home to about 30% of 385 million children who are living in poverty. Not everyone out there is privileged. And so, this Christmas, we had a perfect gift in mind. UClean recently came up with their ‘Don’t Dump, Donate,’ campaign, a small initiative to extend comfort and warmth to those who were in need.
As India’s largest chain of laundry stores, customers regularly visit our stores to get their clothes laundered or dry-cleaned. For our regular customers, it was no biggie when they would sometimes drop their unused clothes at the store. At the end of the year, the clothes that were piled up were either dropped at orphanages or at shelter houses. And that is how we came up with this idea. We asked our customers to donate their unused clothes to their nearest store when they dropped by to place orders. A free pick up and drop option was also available to customers from the website https://uclean.in/donate
The campaign ran in full swing in the spirit of Christmas, backed up by Delhi Government. The campaign was a true success for UClean with an unparalleled support by Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Shri Sanjay Singh.
The campaign was a huge hit and the response was incredible. We never knew that it takes a good cause and call, and so much help would come in. In the past few days, we saw the true spirit of India. What has amazed is was the response we have gotten from the franchise stores. Donations came in from the most unexpected places. All these clothes were laundered and neatly wrapped to be distributed across shelter homes in their respective cities. The team collected about 5000+ units of clothes in the cities of Delhi and Pune. In Delhi, people of INA Shelter Home, AIIMS medical shelter home and Safdarjung Shelter Home and in Pune, people of Sparsh Balgram were delighted by the donations.
It is said, that the true spirit of Christmas is the spirit of giving. Well, we hope we did it justice!
